Rachel Hollis – Girl, Wash Your Face

Did you get your coffee ready? Are you caffeinated and alert? Because in episode number 34 we talk to the powerhouse that IS Rachel Hollis. And we zip through our time together lightning fast! We started off talking about how she leads her team that she also calls her family… but they are FAMILY… not friends.
You’ll have to listen to see how this mindset really sets everyone up for success. AND how this can translate even into our roles as a parent. (TIP: Our young children are not our friends!)Rachel reminds us the difference between being a cheerleader and a coach and when it comes to really helping people: she says she’s a coach, not a cheerleader. A coach is not necessarily liked but they are respected…and Rachel is totally ok with that – because she sees the potential in what CAN BE and she pushes us toward that… and that’s why we love her!
This is such a great theme that Rachel continues through her newest book, Girl Wash Your Face. Rachel says this book came from a desire that was fueled from her interactions with her followers and friends on social media. She wished she could write a book on all the questions that women asked her regarding life, work, home, parenting, marriage and success. So she did!
The main point of this book might surprise you: Stop reaching out to a stranger on the internet and fix your life. Believe it or not, that’s an encouragement! She’s saying you have the ability to control your own situation, especially when it comes to your mindset. You’ll get so much encouragement from Rachel, but in the most real way. She sets out to tell the honest truth…even in the messy times. And she highlights the importance of WOMEN, not just men, showing the full gamut of truth. Keeping it real, keeps life authentic for all of us; Leveling the playing field for all women is the encouragement that we see from Rachel, balancing out the good with the bad. And not just on social media, but in REAL life! It’s important to realize that sometimes we work too hard for the perception of a good life online instead of a good life in person. We slash lies from Rachel’s book that will bring you freedom. One lie was: I need a drink. Drinking as a habit of numbing…but not really acknowledging that numbing became a problem for Rachel. You’ll love to listen to Rachel explain when she realized that she wasn’t just having one drink but maybe more to survive each day. And how she has allowed to let the truth of ugly reality of her life set her free.
Another lie that we tackle: I should be further along by now. THIS. I resonate with this feeling so so often. While I’ve read Rachel’s book, you’ll have to understand that hearing her speak on it again was such a thrill for me! She talks about the slow burn of success and how we are always judging other people. We see someone’s middle and hate our beginning because it doesn’t match up. But Rachel reminds us that as long as we are moving, even if it’s an inch at a time, then we are on the right path. And another thing, we don’t give ourselves enough credit for the growth we HAVE achieved!Speaking of achievements, we talk about the things that become successes in life that were never on our goal list.
Rachel mentions in her book that some of the things we believe that we want to achieve, end up not being our “dream come true” in the first place. A perfect example of this was her daughter Noah’s adoption story. Through the pain of numerous failed adoptions, she can relay how the painful journey was so sweet and perfect beyond what she could have ever imagined.

Last lie that we talk about: Good girls don’t hustle. Attention ladies with intention and purpose to hustle and make a living!!!!! We’ve got another book from Rachel to look forward to!

Friends, if you think you have gotten a good grip on what we talked about from this blog entry, you are sorely mistaken. You have to listen to this episode to catch all the adrenaline pumping shots of encouragement that Rachel has to bring (I’m not joking, be alert. We seriously roll through our convo like dialogue on a Gilmore Girls episode!).
